Electronic Designer

We are looking for an energetic and enthusiastic hands-on Electronic Designer that will join our Engineering Department. As a member of our R&D team, he/she will be responsible for the research and development of conceptual ideas, architectures and processes for new products, improving the performance and design of existing products and developing and optimizing the Manufacturing programming and test processes of products. 

Responsibilities and duties will include:

  • Participate in brainstorming sessions to conceptualize new products.
  • Development of new products combining mechanical, electrical and optical systems.
  • Development of system level architecture specifications.
  • Assembly, test and debugging of prototypes and pre-production prototypes to validate designs for performance, reliability and conformity to applicable standards.
  • Schematic design, PCB layout and maintenance and generation of corporate component libraries.
  • Generating BOM’s and associated manufacturing drawings and documentation for PCBA’s.
  • Developing embedded firmware for test and prototype designs.
  • Performing new product qualification testing according to performance and quality specifications.
  • Testing and qualification of new technologies and components including development of proof-of-concept designs.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, offering suggestions for product design modifications and component substitutions.
  • Completing tasks in creative and effective ways with minimal guidance and oversight.
  • Producing and maintaining accurate documentation according to company standards.
  • Ensuring designs meet quality and regulatory standards (IPC, FCC, IC, CE, etc…).
  • Sourcing and quoting of components and assemblies; working with domestic and foreign vendors.
  • Participate in design handover from engineering to production including providing training to plant staff and maintaining assembly documentation.
  • Managing relationships with external suppliers of custom manufactured goods including cost negotiating and quality management.
  • Programming for production programming and ATE.

The ideal candidate will have experience with electronics design and knowledge in the related test and manufacturing processes. Knowledge and experience with utilization of EDA software, preferably Altium Designer. He/she will have experience with schematic capture and PCB layout software, general electronics lab equipment, hand, power and soldering tools.  This position requires advanced troubleshooting skills including the ability to quickly and accurately capture, analyze and report data.  He/she will be involved in frequent internal and external collaboration in all stages of design to ensure our customers' needs are met.

Required Qualifications: Work Experience, Skills and Abilities

  • BSc. Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited University or equivalent work experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years Electronics Design work experience.
  • Proficient EDA tools such as Altium Designer, OrCAD, LT Spice, etc…
  • Some experience with mechanical CAD such as Solid Works, AutoCAD, Draftsight preferred.
  • Experience with LabVIEW preferred.
  • Ability to effectively plan and organize projects and manage priorities with an attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to understand complex mathematical relationships that underpin electrical analysis.
  • Familiarity with LED’s, Optics & optical system design with ability to answers questions about light and lenses would be an asset.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and embedded code (C).
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge with of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
