Technologist

What You Will Be Doing:

Spectrum Manufacturing is seeking an experienced R&D technologist / SMT machine operator to join their North American headquarters in Mississauga, ON.

As part of our electronics engineering team in Mississauga, you will work with a highly talented and motivated team to ensure the support of the R&D team and run a designated small SMT prototype production line adequately and run in conformance with industrial standards.

 You will bring on board the knowledge of the following:

  • Assist R&D with Prototype and pre-production products
  • Ensure that the equipment is calibrated and functional
  • Overview of some of the automation 
  • Planning, setup and operating a pick and place machine.
  • Setup and operate a stencil printer.
  • Setup and operate a Reflow Oven.
  • Carry out the pre and post-reflow inspection.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum Electronic Engineering Technology Diploma or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in relevant job role.
  • Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) designation or equivalent is considered an asset.
  • Basic PLC and Visual Basic an asset
  • Previous knowledge / experience with pick and place machines, stencil printers, Reflow Oven, CNC and AOI.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics, layout diagrams and bill of materials.
  • Programming PLC’s
  • Programming and operation of Surface Mount Technology (SMT) line.
  • Programming and operation of Pick & place machine.
  • Programming and operation of Reflow Oven.
  • Programming and operation of stencil paste printer.
  • Working experience in setting up machine feeders with required build components.
  • Manual parts placement as required and hand soldering of through hole and SMT components.
  • Testing of completed PCBA modules.
  • SMT parts inventory management.
  • Hands on experience with lab tools such as oscilloscopes and digital multimeters.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Perform all work tasks in compliance with occupational health and safety legislation.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.
  • Desire and ability to take the initiative and drive for results.
