Electronics & Firmware Engineer

What You Will Be Doing:

Spectrum Manufacturing is looking for a talented and experienced electronics engineer to join their North American headquarters in Mississauga, ON.

As part of our electronics engineering team, you will work within a highly talented and motivated team to develop sophisticated and challenging lighting control systems, giving you the exposure to top of the line lighting fixture control and management system in the market. You will bring on board the knowledge of the following.

  • Production oriented electronics development process and life-cycle.
  • Analog and digital designs.
  • Developing and deploying embedded firmware and software.
  • Debugging, testing and fixing existing hardware, firmware & software.
  • Your activities may require you work with embedded hardware and associated SDKs.

You will be working closely with the research and development engineering team to design, implement and test new hardware features. We use a variety of technologies: DMX, ArtNet, RDM, sACN, with Altium being the most common for the schematics capture and layout designing, whereas C, Python, Java, Keil studio, Ubuntu and Linux for firmware/software development.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum BS degree Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in relevant engineering design roles.
  • Minimum of 4 years programming experience in one or more of C, C++, Linux, Ubuntu, Java, Python.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Altium schematics capture and multi-layer PCB layout designing for embedded systems design.
  • Experience with microcontrollers and low-level hardware interfaces, e.g., SPI, I2C, UART, USB, RS-485; working with standard peripherals such as RAM, FLASH, ADCs and EEPROM.
  • Experience with Analog and Digital debugging lab tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and digital multimeters.
  • Experience with Keil studio, STM & Arduino.
  • Experience in developing embedded hardware & software for Raspberry Pi platforms.
  • Writing code in C/C++, Java, Python (C mostly), proficiently.
  • Hands on experience in board bring up testing, board rework & troubleshooting hardware.
  • Following through projects from the concept to production.
  • Commands excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong time management skills that enable on-time project delivery.
  • Ability to work in teams and collaborate effectively with people in different functions.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.
